Despite being mirrorless, the SL isn't that far off in size from your typical SLR.It measures 4.1 by 5.8 by 1.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 1.9 pounds. But after this year, anyone criticizing the company on this is doing so based on history alone.
But at its heart it's a new design, free of the shackles of legacy technology.
The handgrip is covered in a textured material to improve the grip; the texture also covers most of the rear.
The SL is sealed against dust and moisture, and native lenses incorporate a gasket at the mount point, so you can feel comfortable photographing in inclement weather.
Its body is slimmer than an SLR—there's no mirror box after all—but the handgrip is just as substantial as that of a full-frame SLR like the Nikon D810.
The body is cut from aluminum and anodized with a black finish.
And you can make it larger still by adding an optional vertical shooting grip (and if you pair the camera with a big lens, you may want to consider adding the grip).
