She died while trying to cross the Kansas River to Eudora after a horse accidentally backed her buggy into the river. Today the city cemeteries are overseen by the city superintendent, city clerk, and a sexton who takes care of the grounds.Also buried on the Luckan farm was her second husband, August Luckan from Kossenblat, Germany, who died at age 79 in 1904.
